Doublets are word puzzles where the aim is to transform one word into another of equal length and often related meaning. The transformation is done by changing one letter at a time, and all intermediate stages must be real words. A secondary aim is to minimise the number of intermediate steps.
Doublets are sometimes expressed as a challenge rather than just stating the start and end words, and the target number of steps is usually provided. The examples shown to the right are two possible solutions of the challenge to "Put a PIG into its STY" in five steps. They are identical apart from step three.
Other doublets include
- Evolve APE into MAN
- Prove GRASS to be GREEN
- Progress from SUMMER to WINTER
